Trauma can leave lasting effects on your mind and body, but you can recover. At Veritas Psychology Partners, we specialize in trauma therapies that help people to process their experiences, reduce distress, and build a path toward resilience and healing.
Trauma is the emotional and psychological response to deeply distressing events. Trauma responses are normal, expectable responses to trauma that help us to cope in the moment. When people get stuck in those responses after the trauma is over it can lead to feeling overwhelmed, difficulty coping and leave you feeling stuck, unsafe, or disconnected.

Trauma affects everyone differently, but some common signs of a traumatic reaction to trauma include:
Flashbacks or intrusive memories (getting “pictures in your head” or reliving the trauma)
Avoidance of certain people, places, or situations
Feeling constantly on edge or on guard for danger (Hypervigilance)
Sleep problems , including nightmares or insomnia
Emotional numbness or detachment
Difficulty trusting others
Feelings of shame, guilt, or self-blame
These symptoms can persist long after the traumatic event and people can heal with the right support.
At Veritas Psychology Partners, we offer a safe, compassionate space for you to explore and address the effects of trauma.
We use treatments that are based in scientific literature to help you process trauma and reclaim your life, including:
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) helps people change how they think about a traumatic experience to reduce the distress and negative emotions associated with it. In this therapy we talk a lot about things like safety, trust, power/control, esteem, and intimacy because these are 5 areas that are most often impacted by trauma.
Prolonged Exposure (PE) gradually helps people face trauma-related memories, feelings, and situations that have been avoided since the trauma. By repeatedly and safely facing these situations individuals learn that they are no longer dangerous and can decrease their fear and anxiety.
Every individual’s experience with trauma is unique, and so is the healing process. We’ll work with you to create a personalized plan that addresses your specific needs and goals.

We provide targeted support for various types of trauma, including:
Unresolved trauma from any point in life, including childhood, can affect relationships, self-esteem, and emotional regulation. Our therapy helps you process these early experiences and build healthier patterns.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder can occur after experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening event. We help clients reduce symptoms like flashbacks, hypervigilance, and avoidance so they can live life to their fullest.
Chronic or repeated trauma, often occurring in unsafe environments, requires a nuanced approach. We provide long-term support to address these deeper layers of impact.
First responders, healthcare workers, and other high-stress professionals may experience secondary trauma. We offer specialized therapy to help these individuals process their experiences and reduce burnout.

You have the power to shape your recovery journey. We understand that trauma can make you feel like you've lost control, but having a voice in your treatment is crucial. It's about regaining that sense of agency and empowerment. Your safety and trust in your provider are paramount. We want you to be an active partner in your healing process.
What is trauma therapy like?
Addressing trauma is less about the traumatic experiences and more about how those events impacted you. We will spend time talking about how you think and feel about the events that happened as well as ways to challenge where you are feeling stuck.
Do I have to talk about the details of my trauma?
Nope. And you can if you need/want to. Cognitive Processing Therapy can be done effectively even without even disclosing the details and it’s just as effective if you want to share that information with your therapist.
How long does trauma therapy take?
The length of therapy depends on how stuck you feel and your personal goals. Some clients benefit from short-term interventions, while others prefer ongoing support. We most often start using Cognitive Processing Therapy and this is generally, but not always between 10-12 visits.
My trauma is from so long ago. Can I still benefit from treatment?
Yes. It’s never too late to address trauma and begin the healing process.
I have multiple traumas, can this still help?
Yes.
Trauma doesn’t define you, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.
